Eating here is not for the weak

A gentleman named Dan, a son of Ellen who is a friend of my mother, took me 'round the city today. We saw some Petroglyphs, as noted, and we also went to the National Atomic Museum.

And then. And then we ate.

New Mexico loves food. They love Mexican food. They love eggs, re-fried beans, rice, cheese, cheese, chile (red and green), cheese, and honey. I don't know how I ate what I ate. Should have taken a picture. Then again, any record of having eaten that might hurt my stomach.

Food. Delicious, filling, and heart-attack inducing. Welcome to The Southwest America.

Yep, young feller, they likes to eat in the West. I remem'er eatin' a "lumberjack's breakfast" once in Tulsa an' the food jus' kep' on a'comin'. Urrrppp!Be grateful that you're eating the *real* stuff and not that Taco Bell cardboard imitation of SouthWest food. Even better to hear that you're eatin'.

Refried beans ... cheese ... peppers ... did you plan to propel the bus on your own? Oklahoma City and Jane Calamity country. Get that brace of sixguns ready. If you came straight back to Toronto, a mere 28 hours not counting stops. In Texas, of course, you have to have TexMex and a honkin' big piece of longhorn steer before you return to Cajan country

What's the advantage of refried beans, vs. fried?

Actually I don't think refried beans are "fried" even once. It's touted as a health(ier?) food. It always seemed to be just mashed beans. Nick, enlighten the masses?

Here it is, straight from the Net: "Refried" is actually a misnomer. In this instance, refritos means "well fried", not "refried", though you can certainly reheat the beans as you go through a batch.

Recipes call for soaking the beans (starting from dried beans), then frying them in onions and spices. The result is tasty, but heavy. After a place of refried beans, you can feel like you're carrying an anvil in your guts.

I remember the first time Bob and I had Mexican food. We also tried tequila for the first time. And then we watched what was for me my first and last porno flick, starring Linda Lovelace. (That was some bad hat, Harry!) I haven't had tequila since. But I think it might have helped with the digestion of the refried beans that memorable night.

I can't believe my mother just admitted to watching pornography right here on this blog.

Mexican food, tequila, and Linda Lovelace? I'm sure that was the night you were conceived, Nick.
